The Certified Buyer Agency (CBR®) designation is an independent nationally recognized designation that has been offered to REALTORS® through local and state associations since 1991. Over 24,000 REALTORS® currently benefit from the knowledge that they acquired in this highly rated program.
The CBR® program is an intensive program that immerses participants in the laws, industry ‘best practices’ and responsibilities involved in agency representation.
The requirement for earning this designation is satisfactory completion of a 3 day classroom based program. Maintaining a CBR designation requires membership in the National Association of REALTORS and compliance with the NAR Code of Ethics.
Though the CBR course designation is not administered by NAR, it is recognized by NAR as an elective option to some of NAR’s educational programs. NAR by-laws do permit associations to sponsor designation programs, other then those offered by NAR and its affiliates, when an association feels that a course offers a strong benefit to its members.
Agents who earn the CBR designation are not required to complete additional training courses or to pay annual dues to maintain membership in a professional association of buyer agents.

CBR is the first nationally recognized buyer agency designation. The course is sponsored by REALTOR Boards and Associations throughout the United States. REALTORS with the CBR designation have the street skills necessary to both help buyers find their desired property and to help them negotiate for that property in a non-adversArial manner.
